After being in Honduras for well over a month I decided to take a week trip to El Tunco, El Salvador. It's a famous surf/beach town on the Pacific Coast, only about 40 minutes from the capitol city of San Salvador. To get to El Tunco is really easy, they have busses that run from most the major cities in the neighboring countries of Guatemala and Honduras. My shuttle, which turned out to be a private car with only one other passenger, left Copan Ruinas Honduras at 4 A.M. and arrived in El Tunco at 9 A.M.
We crossed the border from Honduras into Guatemala near the Copan Ruinas border, and with just a few minutes at the border crossing we had our passports stamped and were off; driving a few more hours through Guatemala. Watching the sunrise over the huge Guatemalan mountains was amazing. The highways were nice and smooth and traffic was pretty much obsolete at that hour. It was great!
hen we arrived at the El Salvador border we didn't even need to get out of the car; the border agents just checked our passports and said "OK" and we were off continuing on our way to the capitol, San Salvador. After dropping off the first passenger we headed back out of the city towards El Tunco. It was a quick 25 minute ride and I could see the Pacific Ocean once leaving the city. It was so nice to smell that ocean air again, as I have grown up on the Oregon coast in the U.S.
I had reserved a week stay at an Airbnb in El Tunco, so once we arrived at the town gate the driver dropped me off and I easily found the "hotel" I would be staying at for the next week. It's a great property with about a dozen rooms with ranging prices. My room was only $10 USD a night, and was very basic. But hey, for a single guy what more do you really need?
