Honduras Travel Blog
This blog page is a place for me to be more candid and detailed in my travel experiences while in Honduras, besides the typical videos presented on this site. This blog is partially for you, but also for me; as a space for me to write out my thoughts and experiences. I hope it helps inspire you to continue chasing your own passions/goals in some way, despite the obstacles we may face. Above all, I hope this blog will be useful for you, possibly a tool for trip planning or travel inspiration.

I arrived in San Pedro Sula in the morning with no real problems.. [EXCEPT] when I was checking into my flight with Avianca at LAX (on my one way ticket to Honduras) the ticket counter told me they could not print my ticket without proof of on onward flight or bus departing Honduras. I tried to explain to them I couldn't buy my bus ticket from the U.S. over the internet and it's something easily done in person once I land in San Pedro Sula. They didn't care, and said I had to purchase a return ticket to the U.S. in order to board my flight, which was departing in one hour. So, one EXPENSIVE refundable ticket later, I was boarding my flight to Honduras. Lesson learned, make sure you always know the exact policy of entering/departing the country! This was my first time getting hassled, and I've traveled to over a dozen countries.
Once I landed in SPS it was a simple process of going through customs and receiving a free three month visa upon arrival. Gotta love those! Leaving the arrival area in the airport I easily spotted a small booth to purchase a local 'TIGO' SIM card for my unlocked Iphone 6 Plus. I loaded it with $20 USD and got 5 GB of data for the month. It should get me by for a few weeks I figured. The next step was to secure a taxi to the 'Metropolitan Bus Terminal', which has busses to go basically anywhere you're departing to; in my case Copan Ruinas, Honduras.
I found the 'Cassasola Express' bus company and they had a $6 dollar, 4 hour A/C bus to Copan Ruinas. Perfect.

I've been at my Spanish school, Copan Spanish School, this week. They have a great set of teachers that teach you one on one lessons. It has been a great experience and I've seen my Spanish proficiency increase very fast! I would highly recommend them. They also had the option to arrange a homestay with a local family. I figured it would be a great way to double the amount of Spanish I can hear and speak, so I opted in. I really like my homestay and will probably stay with the family for my duration in Copan Ruinas.

So I've been in Honduras for over four weeks now. I'm still staying with my host family, a mother and father and their three sons. It has been an awesome learning experience. Not only in the aspect of practicing my Spanish, but getting to see the family side of the Honduran culture. If you are trying to decide wether to participate in a homestay program somewhere, I HIGHLY recommend it! Back at the beginning of the month I decided to remain with the family for my duration here. We were able to negotiate a very affordable price for me to stay, and in return I have been helping them study English and misc. projects involving their family run hotel, Hotel Cuna Maya.
The family has also been really excited to help set me up with tours and different activities to film for this site and my YouTube channel. Making videos about local businesses is a great way to get discounted (or free) entrance to awesome activities! Basically all the videos I've shot while here in Copan Ruinas thus far have been free for me, and I've only scratched the surface! There will be a lot more to come in the next few weeks.

So I've been plugging along here in Copan Ruinas, practicing Spanish, filming the local spots, teaching my host family English.. but I decided I want to get out and see at least one other country while down here in Central America during this trip. So I decided to book a week trip to El Tunco, El Salvador. It's a famous surfing and beach town on the Pacific coast. I've found an Airbnb that only charges $10 USD a night for a simple room, that's about a 5 minute walk to the beach. It sounds perfect! Today I bought my shuttle ticket to there from Copan and it was only $35 one way. Not bad. So I will leave on Tuesday the 16th at 4 A.M.
I will be uploading this trip on a separate page titled "El Salvador" and I will be uploading a travel blog and videos on that page.
